Whatever the question…

I was once at a Human Awareness Insitute workshop when we were invited to test the truth of the following statement:

“Whatever the question … love is the answer”

I said this to my mother  today – it was part of a story about one of my daughters who thought this statement totally perposterous and had great fun in coming up with examples that disproved it!

My mother enjoyed this bit of the story immensely, but what surprised me, was the little sigh / gasp that she made – the best way that I can describe it, is that it was an appreciative noise of recognition … this really surprised me – my mother has teased me over the years for being soppy and sentimental – she has viewed things much more dryly…

But now, in her 89th year, the words: “Whatever the question – love it is the answer” – seems to take her somewhere meaningful, familiar and recognisable … somewhere she has been …

Robin Norwood – who rose to fame through her book “Women who love too much” once said that “we become old to become lovers” –  when we are young we do not really know what love means, we are not ready to love …

I feel I learn more about love as I get older … and … I feel my mother knows a lot more about it than I do … 🙂
