Juice? Smoothie? And how to sleep at night!

I have been experimenting recently with juicing – I think juicing is fabulous in that it is very good for you,  and an incredible way of getting loads of vitamin, minerals and phytonutrients into the body 🙂 … but … it take a long time to prepare – and a lot of fruit and veg – to produce quite a modest amount – AND THE WASHING UP INVOLVED!!!

So I take my hat off to those of you who do it regularly – I start off with good intentions but can’t sustain daily juicing for long…

But last week – after recommendations from enthusiastic clients – I bought myself a Nutri Bullet. I am sure that it is nothing more than a glorified blender / smoothie maker …   BUT … it seems to have transformed my life as it seems to have provided me with a very quick, easy, convenient way of getting fresh fruit and veg into me on a daily basis – is easier on my supermarket bills than juicing –  and the washing up is a doddle! 🙂

But one thing I found was that my enthusiasm for creating two Nutri Bullet masterpieces a day seemed to be making my digestion work harder and was making me restless at night.

Like many women my age – 54 – I live with the delights of hot flushes – though mine are, I believe, finally on their way out after three years – so my nights are often disturbed – but all this raw fruit and veg was giving me something else to contend with!

So I decided to experiment – and I discovered that I could still live on raw fruit and veg and seeds – as long as I stopped mid-afternoon. The next vital bit was to eat modestly after 5pm: any vegetables needed to be cooked; wheat and dairy are not helpful(!) – and just eat a light meal as early as possible in the evening.

I’m not saying that I will manage to follow this every day – but it is so lovely to at least know what suits me and what doesn’t – and how WELL I can sleep when I choose to eat in ways that my body likes … and when I have a bad bit: a quick colonic gets me back in balance and gives me a “clean slate” to work from 🙂
