Not everyone feels energised after a colonic

After clients have visited me I often e-mail them to check how they have been getting on since their appointment – I have asked one of my clients, who contacted me on Friday,  if I could share her response and my reply as I thought it might be of interest to others.

I have written on my website about the typical symptoms associated with IBS and how colonics can help, but individual cases show both what can be achieved and how there is often more than one factor at play.  I have removed her name to preserve confidentiality.

She wrote:

Hi Emily,

You must have read my mind- I was going to email you today!

Things have been good! My tummy is much less bloated and my clothes are much more comfortable because of that. I didn’t have any bowel movement on Saturday which was very odd for me as I go so regularly I can’t remember the last time I didn’t go for a whole day! I’ve still been getting cramps but they feel more manageable as they are without the bloating.

I have been feeling extremely tired and lethargic and have been having deep naps in the afternoon/evening, is this anything todo with the colonic? Or it could be stress.

I replied:

Thanks for the detailed feedback – this is very helpful for me – thank you.  And I am so pleased that you have had some benefits – that’s great : )

The current tiredness and lethargy would not be caused by the colonic – but – if you were stressed before you came to see me – then you would have had quite a bit of adrenaline pumping through your system. So you wouldn’t have been in a good state, but,  you may have been overriding the tiredness with the adrenaline – and at some point if you continued to override the tiredness you may have “crashed”.

One of the things the colonic does is to perk up serotonin receptors in the bowel – 95% of your serotonin receptors are in your colon – and this enables you to relax better.

If, however, you have been “running on empty” for a while,  this feeling more relaxed just allows the tiredness, even exhaustion, that you were feeling to come to the surface and for your body to respond healthily – which basically means to feel tired and have deep naps to get you back to where you should be : ) So hopefully you should feel better soon once your body has caught up. I hope this makes sense!

So the colonic didn’t make you feel tired – just enabled you to feel how tired you already were and help you to respond healthily – by sleeping more.

So I hope you continue to listen to your body and have naps until your body doesn’t need this anymore – and then you should feel more lively : )
